Clinching joins sheet metal by drawing and forming the sheet materials into an interlock.This Clinching process improves production time and cost while eliminating welding. It is an environmentally-friendly process – no sparks, fumes or heat.
Clinching process joins 2 or more layers with combined thickness from 0.4mm to 6.0mm. A special punch and die are used to form a strong interlocking joint within the metals themselves. The result of the process is a button shaped extrusion on the die side of the assembly, and a small cavity on the punch side. The joint is comprised wholly of the sheet metals that were joined -no external welding material is required.
